Nit Poker Style

A nit is one of the tightest poker styles. Nit players avoid difficult spots, fold frequently and prefer to play only strong starting hands. This reduces variance, but also leaves a lot of money on the table in good situations.

How nits play preflop

Preflop, nits open a very narrow range from all positions and seldom defend their blinds. They often fold hands like suited connectors, small pairs or marginal Broadway holdings, even in late position.

How nits play postflop

Postflop, nits prefer pot control. They rarely bluff and often overfold to aggression. When they bet big, they usually have a strong hand. When they check-call, it is frequently with medium strength.
